Tarpon Springs dba The Shepherd Center is a 501(c) 3 organization serving all of Northern Pinellas County.
Tarpon Springs dba The Shepherd Center provides compassion, basic support, and assistance to those in our community who need it most. We focus on families, the elderly, the homeless, and others in need. We: feed the hungry, clothe the poor, give hope, empower to seek independence, and provide social and legal support.
In 1974, a small group of concerned citizens came together to help their impoverished neighbors with basic essentials such as food, clothing, and shelter. These volunteers worked tirelessly to alleviate the cycles of poverty that devastated generation after generation in their community. From this humble beginning, the Tarpon Springs dba The Shepherd Center has grown into a cornerstone for families and individuals who find themselves in crisis. Our programs reach more than 3,000 clients each year, and include a food pantry, community kitchen, family services, mentoring, job training, and referrals to community partners.
In February, 2016, Tarpon Springs dba The Shepherd Center purchased of the 33,000 sq ft building, located at 304 S Pinellas Avenue in Tarpon Springs.
Beverly Billiris stated,
“As President of the Board, I am humbled and so appreciative that so many in the community came forward to make this day happen A special thank you to USAmeriBank for believing in our mission and recognized the needs of our community, and provided us the necessary funds to purchase the building. Tarpon Springs dba The Shepherd Center has been serving families in this community for 41 years and we now have a permanent home”.
“I attribute this accomplishment to our Lord Jesus Christ”, acknowledged the Executive Director, Ada Del Gais “who, by overseeing the efforts of Tarpon Springs dba The Shepherd Center, placed generous benefactors from our community to contribute to our Capital Campaign and made the buying of the building a true reality. To these contributors I wish to say Thank You from the bottom of our hearts. You have made a huge difference in the lives of so many. Today, Tarpon Springs dba The Shepherd Center has a home for its Food Pantry, Community Outreach Services, Thrift Store, and the many new programs being implemented. We look forward to serving our community for countless years to come”.
Del Fisher, Vice President of the Board said,
“As Vice President and past President of the Board, I am aware of how many people have given of their time, talents and treasures during the 17 years of my involvement at Tarpon Springs dba The Shepherd Center to create a home for the Center. Reaching the twilight of my life, I was afraid that I would not be able to witness the achievement of this goal. God has truly blessed this community with a place to serve those in need. Thanks to all who helped make this happen”.
Jennifer Kasmin, staff member remarked,
“I am so elated that we have been able to recently purchase the building. I know we will be able to continue our mission of helping those within our community who need a hand up in times of struggles, and we will be doing it from our new home. Hard work and dedication really does pay off, and we the shepherds, have all worked hard to see this day.”
