In 1974, a small group of concerned citizens came together to help their impoverished neighbors with basic essentials such as food, clothing, and shelter.  These volunteers worked tirelessly to alleviate the cycles of poverty that devastated generation after generation in their community.  From this humble beginning, the Shepherd Center has grown into a cornerstone for families and individuals who find themselves in crisis.  Our Outreach programs reach more than 3,000 clients each year, and include a food pantry, community kitchen, family services, mentoring, job training, and referrals to community partners.

Fighting Hunger and Providing Hope to Neighbors in Need

Our mission is to strengthen children and families to fulfill their potential by providing food, clothing, and outreach services to those who need a helping hand UP.

In 2022, we expanded our reach to provide

  • 2.75M pounds of food valued at $5M in grocery dollars to 329,000 hungry families and individuals in Pinellas and Pasco counties
  • Supplied food to 14 satellite neighborhood pantries
  • Delivered 1,423 food boxes to homebound people
  • Served 50,000 hot meals via the Hope Center

COMMUNITY IMPACT

Our goal is to maximize resources received to achieve the greatest impact for our neighbors in need.  Efficiency is a key focus for both leadership and staff.  The program expense ratio below illustrates the percentage of funds spent on our core mission compared to expense outlay:

As community partners, together we have made a tremendous impact with families and children challenged with food insecurity.   It’s not just about the numbers.  It’s about the impact on the lives of the people we serve – and the lives of those who serve alongside of us.
